Local Teens Design Winning Art for The International Day of Jewish Youth Service
We would like to share with the community the winning artwork for the International Day of Jewish Youth Service, or, J-Serve.
This design, "J- Serve 2012: Calling all Jews. Young Heroes: Let’s Make it Better Together ", will be featured on t-shirts that will be worn around the world on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2012, and were designed by two Pittsburgh teens (hailing from North Allegheny and Allderdice High Schools!).
Check out J-Serve Pittsburgh’s Facebook page, and be sure to LIKE it to be updated on the different great volunteer opportunities!
It all started when we chose the local theme for J-Serve Pittsburgh 2012 to focus on the earth and our communal commitment to it. But as this sketch developed we realize that it also symbolizes the global effect that we can have on our world, as an international Jewish team. Together we can make a real impact through the service we give at the many different sites and agencies that we help one day at a time. The Hebrew words at the bottom translate to: ‘Tikkun Olam’ – fixing the world, ‘Gmilut Hasadim’- Human kindness and ‘Tzedek’ – Justice. We figure that these are the main pillars that reflect the importance of our service to the world we live in. Lets make it better together!!
