Mitzvah Day ("mitzvah," Hebrew for good deed) is an annual hands-on Jewish community volunteer event taking place on Christmas Day. Mitzvah Day allows members of the Jewish community to give back to the Pittsburgh community, and it enables the professional staffs and regular volunteers of many non-profit agencies (approx. 45-50 sites) to enjoy the holiday with their families and know that their agencies and clients are being cared for. Agencies that we have supported on past Mitzvah Days' include: Rainbow Kitchen, the VA Hospitals, Salvation Army, Western Pennsylvania Humane Society, Auberle, POWER, the National Council of Jewish Women and many more.
Mitzvah Day is a family-friendly event that brings out almost 500 volunteers annually. In addition, Mitzvah Day has a history of receiving extensive media coverage from local newspapers and television stations looking for a "feel good" holiday story.
